Kelly Clarkson Reflects on Family Healing and Finding Joy Following the Loss of Brandon Blackstock
Kelly Clarkson recently provided a poignant glimpse into her private life, sharing how she and her children are navigating their journey of healing following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
During a candid fan Q&A session featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show’s YouTube channel, the 43-year-old artist was asked to name one daily ritual that brings her genuine happiness. Her answer was centered entirely on her two children, 11-year-old River and 9-year-old Remington.
“Snuggling,” Clarkson shared warmly. She noted that her children are currently at a precious developmental milestone—old enough to be independent in their daily routines, yet still young enough to crave the comfort of physical affection.
“Our family has been through a significant transition recently, so I’ve been letting the kids sleep with me quite often,” Clarkson explained. Describing the cozy, if slightly crowded, nighttime arrangement, she added, “It’s me, two kids, and two dogs. It’s a lot, but it’s incredibly special. The conversations that happen during those quiet moments are so heartfelt and sweet. It has become my favorite time of the day.”
The update, shared on Saturday, January 10, comes five months after Blackstock passed away at the age of 48. He succumbed to melanoma in August 2025 after a courageous three-year battle with the disease. Clarkson and the Nashville talent manager were married for seven years before their divorce in 2020.
At the time of his passing, Starstruck Entertainment—the firm co-founded by Brandon’s father, Narvel Blackstock—released a statement confirming he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Prior to his death, Clarkson had temporarily stepped away from her Las Vegas residency, telling fans she needed to be “fully present” for her children during their father’s final days.
