Kelly Clarkson is feeling blue for Tuesday’s (June 15) Kellyoke performance of Sia‘s “Breathe Me.”
Her longtime musical director Jason Halbert accompanied her on the piano for the tender performance, where her sweeping vocals crescendoed during the chorus, only for her to gently exhale the finale words, “Warm me up and breathe me.”
“Breathe Me” was released as a single on Sia’s third studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004. The song broke through the top 40 of Billboard‘s Rock Digital Song Sales chart. Fans of the critically acclaimed HBO drama series Six Feet Under will recognize the song from the montage scene in the series finale that aired on August 21, 2005, which has been described as one of the best series finales in television history.
And yes, Clarkson has been here many times before. She covered Sia’s hit on the Sydney, Australia, stop of her Stronger Tour in 2012. “This is, like, one of my favorite songs probably ever,” she said during the concert to introduce the tune. “It’s just one of those songs you can put on repeat over and over again, and it’s such a spiritual sounding song, and I love it.”
