Keith Urban Covers “Pink Pony Club” and Bob Marley at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Private Party, Leaving Fans Puzzled

Keith Urban Played an Intimate Set at Anthony Pratt’s Mar-a‑Lago Holiday Gathering

Over the weekend, Keith Urban delivered a low-key performance at a private holiday event hosted by Australian industrialist Anthony Pratt at the Mar-a‑Lago resort. The set was compact and personal, featuring Urban alongside a small backing group.

Short video clips shared to Instagram by realtor Tali Israel show Urban reinterpreting songs including Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” and Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Is This Love?”. He also played his 2024 single “Messed Up as Me,” which climbed to No. 12 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Watch the clips on Instagram.

Israel captioned her carousel: “President Trump at Anthony Pratt’s (who just so generously pledged five billion dollars toward American manufacturing projects) holiday party at the Mar‑a‑Lago. Amazing people and great entertainment by Keith Urban.”

Urban’s camp declined to comment on the private appearance.

Since the footage circulated on social media, responses have been mixed. In one thread sharing Israel’s videos, guitarist Butch Walker wrote, “What. A. F—ing. Disappointment.” Other fans suggested the choice of material might have been tongue-in-cheek; one commenter speculated that performing “Pink Pony Club” at a Trump‑adjacent event could have been an intentional provocation.

Urban has generally avoided publicly disclosing his vote in the 2024 U.S. presidential race. In a recent interview with The Times, he noted that his work and the audiences he plays for reveal his outlook, and that he performs for people across a broad political and demographic spectrum.

He has also previously weighed the idea of performing at the White House, telling reporters in 2017 that he would consider any such invitation but prefers to make thoughtful decisions as a private citizen.

Chappell Roan — who won Best New Artist at this year’s Grammys and performed a special version of “Pink Pony Club” with Elton John — has been an outspoken critic of former President Trump. Ahead of the 2024 election, she used blunt language on social media to condemn him and to criticize failures she perceives in parts of the political system.

Urban’s appearance at the Pratt party comes not long after his separation from actress Nicole Kidman; she recently filed for divorce after 19 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

Anthony Pratt is the executive chairman of Pratt Industries, a major privately held recycled paper and packaging company. At last year’s Pratt holiday event at Mar‑a‑Lago, comedian Chris Rock abruptly ended his set after reportedly noticing guests filming in violation of his no‑recording policy.

Neither Chappell Roan nor the Marley estate has issued a statement about Urban’s renditions.
