As October 16 approaches, many who loved Liam Payne are preparing for a painful milestone. That date marks one year since Payne died after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in Argentina, and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has shared an emotional reflection on the days surrounding his passing.

On October 12 Cassidy posted a candid video to TikTok, describing how numb she still feels and recounting the final moments they spent together. She explained that their last goodbye was long and heartfelt — a conversation during which she expressed how much she would miss him. Payne reportedly brushed off the melancholy, telling her she was acting as if it were their final parting, not knowing it would be.

Cassidy said she felt “extremely numb” and emphasized the importance of telling loved ones how much you care, noting that none of us can predict what tomorrow will bring.

Cassidy reflected that, despite the heartbreak, she’s grateful for the way they said goodbye. In the days that followed Payne’s death, messages of grief and remembrance poured in from his family, fans, and his former One Direction bandmates.

Louis Tomlinson has publicly admitted he’s still struggling with the loss. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, Tomlinson described a persistent feeling of injustice and frustration about Payne’s absence, and called the experience “impossibly difficult.”

Toxicology reports released after Payne’s death indicated the presence of alcohol and other substances. Throughout his life, Payne had been candid about his battles with alcohol and addiction — challenges that, according to Cassidy during a conversation on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, predated their relationship. She said early on she underestimated how complex and persistent those struggles could be, and that recovery is far from simple.

Below is Cassidy’s TikTok post in which she speaks about that final day together.
