Kane Parsons visits Valve headquarters, fueling rumors of a Portal adaptation

The director of The Backrooms has long wanted to adapt Portal for the screen.

Kane Parsons sparked speculation about a Portal film after posting two photos from the Valve headquarters on social media. He provided no context, but fans quickly guessed he visited the studio to discuss an adaptation of the game.

These theories reflect his history with the franchise. During the promotion of The Backrooms, Parsons told The New York Times and Letterboxd that the Portal series influenced his work and remained his dream project. Before his success with The Backrooms, he even released a fan-made Portal short film on his YouTube channel.

Parsons now holds the industry standing required for such a project. The Backrooms grossed over $267 million on a $10 million budget. This achievement made him the youngest director in history to have a film debut at the top of the global box office.
