Jurassic Park star Sam Neill has died

Renowned New Zealand actor Sam Neill has died at the age of 79, his family confirmed to the media.

While the specific cause of death remains undisclosed, Neill had been battling stage-three blood cancer following his 2023 diagnosis, eventually entering remission in 2026.

Born in Northern Ireland in 1947, Neill spent his formative years in New Zealand. He achieved international stardom for his iconic portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in the original Jurassic Park trilogy (1993–2001). He famously reprised the role for the 2022 blockbuster Jurassic World Dominion.

Throughout his prolific career, the actor starred in a wide array of notable films, including the horror classics Possession and In the Mouth of Madness, the Academy Award-winning The Piano, The Hunt for Red October, and Event Horizon. Neill was also a familiar face on the small screen, with prominent roles in series such as Merlin, The Tudors, and Peaky Blinders. His final performance will appear posthumously in the 2027 sci-fi action film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
