Johnny Depp, best known for his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, will headline a new screen adaptation of The Master and Margarita, Variety reports.
Depp will also serve as a producer alongside the team behind Jeanne DuBarry. The film is set to be the first English-language adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel. It has not been disclosed which character Depp will portray.
Reports first linked the actor to The Master and Margarita in the early 2000s. In 2024, a separate adaptation directed by Mikhail Lockshin — starring Yevgeny Tsyganov and Yuliya Snigir — was released.
Depp is currently filming Paramount’s A Christmas Story, which is scheduled for release in autumn 2026.
