John Legend is extending his support to wife Chrissy Teigen after she published a lengthy apology letter Monday for bullying multiple people in resurfaced tweets.
In a lengthy Medium post titled “Hi again,” Teigen apologizes for her past behavior on social media and showcases her efforts to reconcile with those she’s hurt. “There is simply no excuse for my past horrible tweets. My targets didn’t deserve them. No one does. Many of them needed empathy, kindness, understanding and support, not my meanness masquerading as a kind of casual, edgy humor,” she wrote. “I was a troll, full stop. And I am so sorry.”
Legend shared her tweet while highlighting the line, “We are all more than our worst moments,” and tacking on four heart emojis.
In the piece, she mentions how 5-year-old daughter Luna reminds Legend of Teigen and how she only wants Luna to have “all the best parts of me, all the things I aspire to be all the time, but fail at sometimes.”
“And we preach kindness to her and [3-year-old son] Miles every chance we get. Will they eventually realize there is some hypocrisy there? I certainly do. But I hope they recognize my evolution,” Teigen wrote. “My goal is to be so good that my kids will think this was all a fairy tale. Not the fake good. The good that has the best intentions, the good who wakes up wanting to make her friends, family, her team and fans as happy as possible. The good who will still f— up in front of the world but rarely, and never not growing only more good from it.”
In May, Teigen issued an apology specifically to Courtney Stodden after being accused of bullying them in their teens, including telling Stodden to take their own life. Shortly after, Teigen exited her guest voiceover role in the Netflix comedy Never Have I Ever.
In her latest mea culpa, Teigen extends her amends to the others she has hurt and explained she’s privately reaching out to those individuals so she can “listen to what they have to say, while apologizing through sobs.”
