John Legend Gives an Update on Wife Chrissy Teigen Amid Social Media Bullying Controversy

John Legend shared an update about how wife Chrissy Teigen is faring amid celebrities coming forward about how she bullied them on social media.

In a brief TMZ video posted Wednesday (June 16), Legend simply says, “She’s doing great,” when asked about his wife. The update comes a day after designer Michael Costello said the model had driven him to suicidal thoughts when she tried to blacklist him from working with certain clients due to what he claims were fabricated racist messages attributed to him.

U.K. singer Leona Lewis later recalled her own painful experience with Costello, claiming the Project Runway designer refused to dress her for a charity fashion show when the sample size didn’t work on her during the fitting. “We all make mistakes, I know I have, but at this time I feel that when people apologize (Chrissy) and show sincere remorse and rehabilitation for their actions, we should embrace them and not try and kick them when they’re down,” Lewis wrote.

Legend, who’s been through thick and thin with Teigen, has been extra supportive of his wife this week. The EGOT winner shared Teigen’s lengthy apology letter Monday, in which she apologized for her past behavior on social media and showcased her efforts to reconcile with those she’s hurt. “There is simply no excuse for my past horrible tweets. My targets didn’t deserve them. No one does. Many of them needed empathy, kindness, understanding and support, not my meanness masquerading as a kind of casual, edgy humor,” she wrote. “I was a troll, full stop. And I am so sorry.”

Legend shared her tweet while highlighting the line, “We are all more than our worst moments,” and tacking on four heart emojis.

In May, Teigen issued an apology specifically to Courtney Stodden after being accused of bullying them in their teens, including telling Stodden to take their own life. Shortly after, Teigen exited her guest voiceover role in the Netflix comedy Never Have I Ever. Teigen extends her amends to the others she has hurt in her Medium mea culpa and explained she’s privately reaching out to those individuals so she can “listen to what they have to say, while apologizing through sobs.”
