Jennifer Lopez expressed enthusiasm for Bad Bunny after the Puerto Rican star was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl 60 halftime show in 2026. Speaking with the Today show on Monday, October 6, while promoting her musical film Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lopez said she’s thrilled to see Benito take on the spotlight.
Lopez remembered that Bad Bunny joined her and Shakira as a special guest during the 2020 halftime performance at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, calling the experience “an incredible time” and describing the collaboration as a genuine cultural moment.
“I think he’s going to astonish everyone,” Lopez said, predicting that the show will introduce Bad Bunny’s electrifying stagecraft to some viewers who haven’t yet experienced his global appeal. When asked about criticism from some conservative commentators — including exaggerated threats to deploy immigration enforcement at Levi’s Stadium — Lopez said she was unaware of any controversy and questioned the basis for such backlash.
“I don’t know why people would object,” she added. “He’s one of the world’s biggest artists right now. I’m so excited for people who haven’t seen him live — they’ll be surprised. His music crosses language and cultural barriers. He’s an incredible performer.”
Turning to her own work, Lopez described Kiss of the Spider Woman as her first full-scale movie musical that lets her sing, dance and act in equal measure. While she previously starred in the 1997 biopic Selena, she said this new role fulfilled long-held aspirations of performing as a triple-threat in a major film.
Lopez laughed as Today co-host Craig Melvin noted that she filmed the project during her divorce from Ben Affleck — who is listed among the film’s executive producers. “If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have been made,” she said, acknowledging his role and adding that the project offered emotional refuge during a challenging personal period.
“This film was a dream come true,” Lopez said. “Movies and art have a way of getting you through hard times. Making this picture checked off so many things I wanted to do since I was a little girl.”
