James Wan, the filmmaker behind Insidious and The Conjuring, will produce a new entry in the Paranormal Activity series — the franchise’s eighth installment. The recent merger of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster has at last enabled this collaboration.
Paramount will oversee the film’s production and distribution, and Oren Peli, who created the original Paranormal Activity, will join the project as a producer.
Jason Blum has indicated that making the eighth film is a priority for Paramount, and viewers shouldn’t have to wait long for its premiere.
The first Paranormal Activity earned a then-impressive $194 million worldwide for the fledgling Blumhouse, despite being produced on a tiny budget of just $15,000. The story follows ordinary people facing supernatural forces that infiltrate their home and is presented in a found-footage style.
