James McAvoy Wants to Play Picard in “Star Trek”
James McAvoy came close to playing a young Jean-Luc Picard in a standalone Star Trek series. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that he had pitched the franchise’s team an idea called Mutiny on the Stargazer. He said the creators liked the concept, but the project never reached production because of logistical hurdles.
McAvoy envisioned a self-contained season about Picard’s early years, when he first took command of the starship Stargazer. The story would have explored how that moment came about, along with a secret the captain kept throughout his entire career.
McAvoy already has experience playing a younger version of a character originated by Patrick Stewart. In the X-Men films, he played the young Charles Xavier, while Stewart portrayed the older professor.
