Having wrapped up promotion for the third Avatar, James Cameron plans to shift his focus to developing a script for a new Terminator installment. In a recent interview the director said he has several compelling concepts for a film about lethal cyborgs.
That said, in an age of rapid technological progress, imagining a plausible story about a future crisis is far from simple. Cameron argues we already inhabit a world that feels like science fiction, with machines deeply embedded in everyday life. The idea of a new Terminator is intricate, but by no means impossible.
It appears Cameron does not expect the Avatar sequel to fully pay off. Even now he’s preparing to step away from the Pandora universe to concentrate on another significant project in his career.
