Following the tragic loss of his wife, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eva Best), at the Battle of Rook’s Rest during the second season, Corlys underwent a profound shift. He finally acknowledged Alyn and Addam as his flesh and blood. Buoyed by surviving his brush with death at the Battle of the Gullet — an engagement that saw his ancestral seat, High Tide, utterly devastated — Corlys began looking toward the horizon. Once Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) successfully captured King’s Landing and ascended the Iron Throne, he implored her to legitimize Alyn (Abubakar Salim) and Addam (Clinton Liberty) as his official heirs. Episode 6 channels the patient, methodical storytelling of classic Game of Thrones, allowing numerous intricate threads to advance organically. Devoid of massive dragon skirmishes or fiery shouting matches, the narrative deliberately disperses its focus across various character arcs and quiet developments. One of the few early visual highlights features Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) bracing for a glorious last stand against Team Black’s advancing host, only to be unceremoniously felled by a volley of distant arrows. It serves up a grimly satisfying deflation for the viewer while stripping Cole of any heroic grandeur. The remainder of the chapter relies heavily on mounting psychological pressure as the overarching conflict inches forward.
Back in King’s Landing, Alyn of Hull is steadily stepping into his responsibilities as the de facto Hand of the King. Following Episode 5, which revealed an underground network of Team Green loyalists championing Daeron’s claim under the orchestration of Ormund Hightower (James Norton), a mass resignation among the city’s gold cloaks has left a dangerous void. Alyn devises an inventive workaround: deploying Velaryon sailors to temporarily patrol the streets as a makeshift city watch, prompting him to petition Corlys for additional forces.
Alyn tracks down Corlys, who remains preoccupied with beating back relentless Triarchy naval raids. The Sea Snake grants the request but remains embittered by Rhaenyra’s ongoing refusal to legitimize Addam and Alyn. “And how many years did it take you to do the same?” Alyn pointedly fires back.

While it is entirely plausible that Corlys meets his end here, unlike Cole taking a direct arrow to the face, viewers never actually witness Corlys receiving a fatal blow. Once he is ambushed from behind, the camera pulls back to a wide frame as he struggles against his assailants amid chaos erupting across the camp. Corlys has already cheated seemingly certain death earlier this season, and narrative momentum suggests he will do so once more.
The reality is that Corlys still has pivotal duties to fulfill as the civil war escalates. Our best assessment is that no, Corlys is not dead; rather, he has likely been captured by operatives dispatched by Ormund Hightower. The Dance of the Dragons takes a dramatic pivot following the impending conflict at Tumbleton, and Corlys remains a cornerstone of political maneuvering through the remainder of the conflict. Slaying him off now would represent the most drastic divergence from the source material the series has attempted to date. In short, you can rest easy—Corlys is likely safe, at least for now.
