“I Shouldn’t Have Told You That”: Shaboozey Opens Up About His Feminist New Album and Designing an F1 Race Car

Raised in Virginia, Shaboozey has long been captivated by motorsports. This passion comes full circle as he joins the action at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, where his signature tortoiseshell motif will appear on the cars of the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls.

Continuing his collaboration with Cash App — the tortoiseshell card he helped introduce in February is already a standout — Shaboozey’s design will wrap two F1 cars among the 20 entrants this weekend. The project is accompanied by a short film that unveils the livery and its cinematic treatment for the first time. Learn more about the original card launch on Cash App’s site.

Speaking about his lifelong interest, Shaboozey recalled scouring thrift stores in his youth, where a thriving vintage scene introduced him to classic racing memorabilia. Those early discoveries—drivers like Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt—left a lasting impression that has influenced his aesthetic and sound.

He hopes the distinctive F1 livery becomes a sought-after collectible. “Cash App kept pushing creative boundaries, and the tortoiseshell concept exceeded my expectations,” he says, noting how the idea evolved from storyboard to screen. The final result, he adds, felt almost cinematic.

Off the track, Shaboozey is finalizing the follow-up to his 2024 album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. He describes the new record as essentially complete but still reshuffling tracks and occasionally writing fresh material. He also revealed the album’s central theme: a Western-inspired concept exploring aspects of femininity—an artistic direction he hadn’t planned to announce so soon.

In September 2025 he launched his own imprint, American Dogwood, in partnership with EMPIRE and signed his first artist, Kevin Powers. As label founder, Shaboozey says he’s relishing the role and intends to bring more voices onto the roster as he discovers new talent.

Shaboozey praised Powers—also from the Carolina region—and hopes to have him accompany the team to the Austin race on October 19. The artist underscores how the culture and history of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland shaped many trends and creative movements that are often overlooked.
