Ryan Condal has already submitted the draft script for the first episode to HBO.

HBO Max has released the final eighth episode of the third season of House of the Dragon. Meanwhile, showrunner Ryan Condal is already preparing the fourth season, which will conclude the story of the Targaryen civil war.

The creators have finalized the overall structure of the continuation, and Condal has delivered the draft script for the first episode to HBO. During the broadcast of the third season, the showrunner took a short break from work to step away from the project briefly before preparing for the finale:

“An incredible season awaits us. As crazy and large as the third one was, I think the fourth will turn out even more massive.”

Condal also called it a great privilege to have the opportunity to finish the story at a point chosen in advance by the creators. According to the showrunner, the team is already returning to work with excitement, and the final season will expand the world of the series:

“The opportunity to tell a story, write its ending ourselves, and decide where and when it will end is a great privilege. In the television industry, such freedom is far from always encountered. Therefore, we are returning to work with huge enthusiasm. Ahead are new characters, dragons, and locations that, I hope, will make the final season a worthy conclusion to the series.”

The premiere date for the fourth season has not yet been announced. It is estimated that the continuation will be released no later than the summer of 2028. Condal’s contract with HBO runs through 2029, though this timeframe also includes the development of new projects after the conclusion of House of the Dragon.
