He Spent 40 Days in the Wild to Create the Most Photorealistic Survival Game Ever
For developer and actor Dogus Cagrici, there were no shortcuts when it came to crafting the ultimate survival experience. He spent weeks isolated in the wilderness to bring Wordless Forest to life—completely off the grid, without a cell signal, and forced to navigate encounters with bears, boars, and snakes entirely on his own.
“I survived countless falls and nearly shattered my foot out there,” Cagrici reflects in the press kit for his upcoming title. Wordless Forest is an interactive, live-action odyssey where every sequence was captured firsthand by the creator. Armed with nothing but a backpack and a camera, Cagrici weathered the harsh Turkish backcountry for weeks at a time. The scenes players encounter—whether it is Cagrici shivering in an icy river, consuming raw fish, or navigating treacherous terrain—are authentic survival efforts. While select moments were staged to serve the narrative, the survival skills on display are entirely genuine.
“The physical toll was unrelenting,” notes Cagrici. “The exhaustion you see on screen is 100% real.”
Distinguishing itself from typical FMV (Full Motion Video) titles, Wordless Forest eschews dialogue and internal narration. The player is responsible for every decision, left to navigate the environment without the safety net of a guided monologue.
“This is a brutal world where the narrative is forged not by words, but by your actions,” the game’s Steam page explains. “A single lapse in judgment or a missed detail can result in permanent, irreversible consequences.”
Capturing the footage was a massive logistical undertaking; Cagrici traversed four Turkish provinces over a 40-day production period, spending 20 of those days deep within the Yenice Forests. He often hiked for kilometers just to secure the perfect cinematic angle.
“The hazards shifted alongside the landscape,” he continues. “In Muğla, I waded through frigid rivers while wearing soaked clothes; in Antalya, I filmed solo along the edges of sheer cliffs where one wrong step would have been fatal.”
Serving as the sole writer, director, lead actor, editor, and programmer, Cagrici has dedicated two and a half years to this project. Following his grueling wilderness expedition, Wordless Forest is slated for release on August 24, 2026. Cagrici survived his ordeal intact, and he remains hopeful that his dedication to realism will deliver a level of immersion players have never experienced before.
“I want players to truly feel that raw, unsettling isolation,” Cagrici says.
