Valve released a small Half-Life 2 hotfix on November 16, 2024, one day after the large 20th Anniversary Update. The patch addressed a language-specific chapter crash, weapon-icon alignment and several Steam Workshop problems. It did not introduce a separate campaign or replace the anniversary release.

How it relates to the anniversary update

The major anniversary package arrived on November 15. Valve added developer commentary, visual and control improvements, Steam Workshop support and easier access to Episode One and Episode Two through the Half-Life 2 menu. The November 16 build was a follow-up stability and interface pass for that new foundation.

This distinction matters when troubleshooting. A player looking for the anniversary features should consult the November 15 announcement, while the November 16 notes explain a narrower set of fixes. SteamDB identifies the associated update as build 16431800 and separates it from the next patch issued on November 18.

What players needed to do

Valve did not publish migration steps for this hotfix. Steam normally installs the latest public build automatically, so verifying that the client completed the download was the relevant first check. Workshop authors affected by the Episode One and Episode Two campaign mix-up could then retest their campaign metadata and upload pages on the corrected build.

The language-crash item does not name every affected locale, and the official notes do not claim that all Workshop issues were solved. Later Half-Life 2 updates should therefore take precedence when diagnosing a current installation.
