GTA: Vice City Stories sold 2.5 million more copies than previously thought
Take-Two Interactive has successfully blocked a trademark application for “Vice City Subs,” a restaurant venture proposed by DT Global Investment Holdings. In their legal opposition, the publisher emphasized the enduring brand power of GTA: Vice City and GTA: Vice City Stories, providing updated sales figures to demonstrate the franchise’s commercial significance.
While the sales data for the original Vice City remains steady at 17.5 million units, the statistics for GTA: Vice City Stories revealed a significant and unexpected increase. The last official report, dated March 26, 2008, listed the game at 4.5 million copies. However, current records now confirm 7 million copies sold—marking an additional 2.5 million units in sales that had gone previously unrecorded. This represents a remarkable achievement for a title that debuted nearly two decades ago on the PSP and PS2, and which continues to see life through community-driven efforts to port the game to PC.
