GTA VI Pre-order Issues: Regional Restrictions Discovered in PS5 Editions
Preorders for GTA VI on PS5 have caused confusion as retailers warn of regional restrictions on digital activation codes.
The launch of Grand Theft Auto VI preorders triggered uncertainty regarding whether digital PS5 codes work across different regions. Major retailers including Amazon and GAME added warnings stating that game copies purchased in one country only work on accounts registered in that same country. A code bought in the United Kingdom, for example, will not activate elsewhere.
These restrictions prompted concern within the European Union, which prohibits geoblocking of digital goods between member states. Stores in Germany and Spain currently show different terms, citing standard activation across Europe. French retailers and some German shops feature no such warnings at all. These notices have also begun to disappear from Xbox listings, a platform where regional barriers are typically absent.
