Recently, residents of Melbourne, Australia, observed that local authorities have finally painted over a landmark wall that once showcased a legendary GTA: San Andreas mural.

The history of this iconic piece dates back to 2004. Unlike typical street art, it was commissioned as a professional component of the game’s official promotional campaign, distinguished by the ^TM trademark and a link to the game’s website. Its cultural significance was such that for several years, photographs of the mural were used to illustrate Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas entries on Wikipedia across multiple languages.

While the surrounding urban environment has evolved significantly over the past two decades, leaving only weathered remnants of the artwork visible in recent times, the wall at the intersection of Spencer and Dudley Streets has now been completely whitewashed, erasing the final traces of this gaming relic.
