GTA Online Implements BattlEye Anti-Cheat, Mentions of GTA 6, Next-Gen GTA 5, and RDR 1 for PC Found in RGL

On the 11th anniversary of GTA 5, developers have prepared a gift for everyone playing GTA Online on PC — the game now includes the BattlEye anti-cheat system, which is used in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, Destiny 2, among others. The installation will start as soon as you launch “GTA 5”.

This measure is aimed at reducing the number of cheaters, often forcing players into private sessions. However, there’s a downside to this decision. Players will not be able to play “Online” on Steam Deck (only in the story mode), as the platform does not support BattlEye. Since the anti-cheat will collect certain data from the computer (IP, information about the OS, running applications, etc.), some programs might not work during the game. For example, graphical tools like ReShade and Special_K. Additionally, it’s known that BattlEye cannot run concurrently with AVG and Trend Micro antivirus software. There might be issues with other software as well. More details about BattlEye in conjunction with GTA 5 / GTA Online can be found in the official FAQ and Troubleshooting Guide.

Players who play the story mode with mods might wonder what to do. Simply go to the settings in the Rockstar Games Launcher before launching the game and uncheck the relevant option. However, note that this will disable direct access to “Online.” In the Epic Games Store, go to “Manage” and ensure that the “Launch Options” line is disabled, and the text field below it is empty. But for convenient use of EGS and Steam versions, we recommend downloading RGL, linking them to it, and making adjustments as shown in the screenshot below. On RP servers, the anti-cheat is not required and will be disabled upon loading.

For GTA 5 with mods, BattlEye needs to be disabled in settings.

During preparations, some interesting folders appeared (now removed) in RGL, which strongly hint towards GTA 6 (Americas), a PC version of Red Dead Redemption, and an enhanced edition of GTA 5, whose features and content are currently available only to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners. Moreover, SteamDB has already found a page that possibly relates to the updated “GTA 5.” The community is wondering if it will be sold again… Well, we’re awaiting official announcements soon.

Folders leaked in Rockstar Games Launcher.
