A low-quality video with a call to buy Bitcoin appeared online 15 hours before the scheduled time, significantly spoiling the first impression for those who couldn’t resist watching it. The developers had no choice but to publish the video earlier than planned.
What happened on the night of December 4-5, 2023? Online detective ZachXBT shares the timeline of events (below is Kyiv time).
- 22:50 — a certain Skenkir (known for SIM swapping various celebrities), who bought access to the YouTube admin panel (later, the video hosting platform conducted investigations into this and other similar cases), shares a screenshot from there in a Telegram chat.
- 22:58 — the perpetrator showcases a frame with the game’s release year.
- 23:58 — the trailer surfaces on X (formerly Twitter).
- 01:10 — Rockstar Games acknowledges the leak and officially releases the trailer.
