GTA 6: Budget, Presentation, and Modding

Development Costs

Market analysts have speculated that the development budget for Grand Theft Auto VI could range between $1 billion and $1.5 billion. When pressed on these figures, Zelnick declined to provide a precise number, remarking only that the project was undoubtedly a substantial investment.

The Hands-On Experience

Regarding the game itself, Zelnick noted that while he has witnessed a demonstration of GTA VI, he has not played it personally. Zelnick openly admits that he does not engage with video games, nor does he consume alcohol or tobacco. During the preview, a developer operated the controller while Zelnick watched, describing what he saw as nothing short of “amazing.”

The Stance on Modding

Zelnick also addressed the vibrant modding community surrounding the franchise. He expressed admiration for the hundreds of thousands of fans who have dedicated decades to crafting creative modifications for the series. Emphasizing a philosophy of collaboration over conflict, Zelnick explained that the company prefers to embrace these creators, a sentiment solidified by Rockstar Games’ acquisition of the Cfx.re team.
