Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ to Get a Modern Update

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond described Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia as a “cultural event” with the potential to “change the world.”

Gelfond also noted that the film will have a distinctly modern musical sensibility, drawing comparisons to bands like The Doors and Pink Floyd.

“This is a bona fide blockbuster being produced for IMAX and Netflix… It’s not the Narnia your mother or grandmother knew. The music is incredibly contemporary and resonates with IMAX audiences. I won’t get into specifics, but think along the lines of Pink Floyd and The Doors…,” he said during a presentation in New York.

Gerwig has adapted C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew for the screen. The cast includes Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep, who will voice the lion Aslan. Mark Ronson (known for Barbie) composed the score. The film is scheduled for release on November 26, 2026.

The best-known film adaptations of Narnia remain the Disney trilogy (2005–2010).
