Dan Houser has added a new role to his repertoire — that of book author. The volume is a written adaptation of his audio podcast “A Better Paradise: Volume One (An Aftermath).”
The publisher summarizes the premise as follows:
“A Better Paradise takes place in the near future (2041) and revolves around Daisy’s Ark — an advanced video-game world developed by the tech startup Tyburn Industria.
Conceived by visionary psychologist Mark Tyburn, the series “Daisy’s Ark” is ultimately cancelled after a string of ‘unexpected and unsettling outcomes.’
A decade later, their creation refuses to remain buried, returning to haunt those involved in its making.
In A Better Paradise the narrative is delivered in first person from multiple viewpoints, including Kurt Fischer, a former key employee of Tyburn Industria; Daisy Tyburn, Mark’s daughter and the game’s namesake; and an artificial intelligence called NigelDave.”
The book is available in print, as an e-book, and in audio form. In every format, A Better Paradise fuses semi-autobiographical reflections on working in the games industry with speculative, fiction-driven storytelling.
