British pop singer Dua Lipa has received Best New Artist tonight on the 61st Grammy Awards. She takes house the award over H.E.R., Jorja Smith, Margo Price, Chloe x Halle, Luke Combs, Bebe Rexha, and Greta Van Fleet.
In her acceptance speech, Dua Lipa alluded to outgoing Recording Academy President Neil Portnow’s infamous “step up” comments finally yr’s Grammys. She stated: “Where I want to begin is by saying how honored I am to be nominated alongside so many incredible female artists this year because I guess this year we’ve really stepped up?” Watch beneath.
Dua Lipa launched her self-titled debut in June 2017. The report consists of Lipa’s hit single “New Rules,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition to Best New Artist, Dua Lipa was nominated for the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for “Electricity,” her collaboration with Mark Ronson and Diplo.
