New York City celebrated a surprise-turning-into-reality Tuesday: 34‑year‑old Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani has been declared the winner of the 2025 mayoral election, and a number of well-known musicians publicly expressed their excitement.

Following the race’s conclusion on November 4, 2025, artists including Gracie Abrams, Halsey and Lorde used social media to share enthusiasm and congratulations. Abrams posted multiple Instagram Stories, writing in all caps that she was “SCREAMING” and noting she kept getting chills. Halsey — who had just finished a concert — said on X that the result left her buzzing and unable to sleep, adding that she felt “too alive.” Lorde posted a “New York” graphic to her Story and wrote, “Change … Have a Nice Day,” tagging Mamdani’s account.

The turnout in New York City delivered more than 1,036,051 votes for Mamdani, according to reported totals. Running on a platform focused on lowering the city’s cost of living, the assemblyman took an estimated 50.4% of the vote; Andrew Cuomo received about 41.6% and Curtis Sliwa roughly 7.1%.

Other musicians chimed in across Instagram and X: Clairo reacted with a fire emoji in the comments on Mamdani’s posts, Lizzy McAlpine typed “YAYYYY,” and Rachel Zegler wrote, “he’s home!” King Princess suggested throwing a celebration, while Lauren Jauregui offered blessings and well-wishes.

The groundswell of popular support mirrors the grassroots energy that propelled Mamdani’s campaign. Backed publicly by figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez, the Ugandan‑born candidate leaned heavily into social‑media outreach and cultural moments — even appearing onstage during PinkPantheress’ October concert in Brooklyn to connect with younger voters.

When asked to sum up his campaign in three songs, Mamdani referenced Taylor Swift’s “Only the Young,” The Game’s “Hate It or Love It” (featuring 50 Cent), and Lil Wayne’s “Right Above It” (featuring Drake), a nod to his engagement with popular music and youth culture.
