Sony has not yet published official numbers, but industry reports indicate the launch was another major success for PlayStation Studios.
According to GSD, Ghost of Yotei debuted at No. 2 on the European sales chart, trailing EA Sports FC 26, which held the top spot for a third consecutive week.
The opening performance of Ghost of Yotei closely mirrors Ghost of Tsushima’s launch in 2020, which became one of that year’s standout hits. For context, Ghost of Tsushima released during the pandemic-driven surge in gaming.
The report confirms this is PlayStation’s biggest debut since Spider-Man 2 (October 2023). Strong sales indicate PlayStation fans largely ignored concerns and potential boycott calls, enthusiastically supporting a title that has resonated with both critics and players.
By comparison, EA Sports FC 26 saw a 62% drop in sales from the prior week but retained the lead thanks to its massive player base. In third place was the Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Double Pack for Switch, which opened more modestly — selling roughly 25% of the volume achieved by Super Mario 3D All-Stars in 2020.
