Ghost of Yotei Loses Players’ Interest, Sony Silent on Sales
Ghost of Yotei became a PR nightmare for PlayStation even before its launch. Fans are now asking how that has affected sales of Sony’s new exclusive.
There’s no clear answer yet — the company hasn’t released sales figures, which could mean the title hasn’t reached one million units sold, or that Sony is holding out for stronger numbers.
Rumors of “impressive results” are circulating, but they’re unverified claims from anonymous social posts. The only confirmed data indicate that in the UK Ghost of Yotei sold 40% fewer physical copies on launch day than Ghost of Tsushima. That comparison refers solely to physical sales — a format that is declining as digital purchases grow.
According to TwitchTracker, interest in the game is dropping quickly. Ghost of Yotei currently ranks 14th among the most-watched games on Twitch. Since October 2, viewership has fallen from 111,000 to roughly 20,000 daily. By comparison, Megabonk draws about 90,000 viewers per day.
On the PlayStation Store, Ghost of Yotei already has 24,000 reviews with an average rating of 4.84 out of 5. For comparison, Ghost of Tsushima has over 272,000 ratings.
After scandals involving the developers, many players pledged to boycott the release. Whether that has affected sales will only become clear with time. Official figures from Sony are not yet available.
