Ghost of Yotei spares no one. Sucker Punch has officially confirmed that the studio’s new title is more demanding than Ghost of Tsushima — and that this was an intentional decision.
Creative director Jason Connell said the default difficulty is tuned for players seeking a substantial challenge. According to the studio, most playtesters found the experience more satisfying when success depended on skill rather than forgiving mechanics.
The game offers several modes — from a relaxed, narrative-focused option to an ultra-hardcore setting where the smallest mistake can be fatal. The team admitted their toughest task was striking the right balance for the “normal” tier: making it rigorous without being off-putting.
Developers also added the ability to switch difficulty freely at any time, with no penalties. This allows players to experience the story at their own pace without losing engagement.
Sucker Punch’s approach is designed to appeal both to newcomers and to fans of Tsushima.
