Ghost of Yotei Breaks Sales Records in Japan and Attracts Tourists

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sucker Punch Productions’ action-packed Ghost of Yotei is poised to become one of Japan’s best-selling games of 2025, according to a recent report.

STV News reports that since its launch on October 2, 2025 the title has swept the Japanese market: sales spiked immediately after release, and electronics stores in Sapporo are seeing a steady stream of customers. The Yodobashi Camera branch in Sapporo confirmed the game is vying for the top release of the year.

The story unfolds against the backdrop of Mount Yotei and the Jōzankei and Niseko regions. Players take control of a warrior who has lost her family and embarks on a journey of vengeance and redemption. The game’s attention to historical detail, breathtaking vistas and dynamic combat have won over gamers across the country.

Strong sales and growing international interest have transformed Ghost of Yotei into more than a commercial success — it has become a cultural phenomenon that links digital art with regional heritage.

The game is already spurring tourism and handicrafts on Hokkaido: in Niseko, limited-edition souvenirs — magnets and wooden badges made from local timber — are being produced. Local artisans and officials hope the global spotlight will showcase Mount Yotei’s natural beauty beyond the winter season. A tourism campaign across seven municipalities at the mountain’s foothills is being planned.
