Lionsgate has reportedly halted production on the follow-up to the high-octane thriller Plane after lead actor Gerard Butler opted out of the project.
The news was brought to light by Butler’s co-star, Mike Colter, who revealed that the veteran action star withdrew from the film a mere two weeks before principal photography was scheduled to begin. As of now, the specific motivations behind his sudden exit remain undisclosed.
The original film, which premiered in 2023, centered on commercial pilot Brodie Torrance and fugitive Louis Gaspare, who were forced to cooperate for survival after their aircraft crash-landed in a volatile region of the Philippines.
