‘Forza Horizon 6’ Officially Delayed to 2027 on PS5
Forza Horizon 6 stands out as one of the most celebrated and commercially successful titles of the year. Following its initial rollout on Xbox and PC back in May—which was met with widespread critical acclaim—months of speculation have finally been put to rest. Official confirmation reveals that the PlayStation 5 port of Forza Horizon 6 has been postponed. Originally slated for sometime in 2026, Playground Games’ premier racing experience is now officially locked in for a January release on PS5.
This announcement arrives on the heels of Playground Games previously refuting claims that a delay was on the horizon. The studio recently issued an apology via X addressing a temporary lack of transparency regarding upcoming patches and game content.
On Thursday, Sony Interactive Entertainment formally locked in January 26, 2027, as the official launch window for Forza Horizon 6.
Why does this matter?
Over the years, the Forza Horizon franchise has quietly evolved into one of the most lucrative intellectual properties in modern gaming. Market intelligence firm Alinea Analytics estimates that, even before stepping foot onto Sony’s ecosystem, Forza Horizon 6 has surpassed 7.4 million units sold, hauling in roughly $534.3 million in revenue following its stellar May 19 debut on Windows and Xbox Series X.
To put that in perspective, Microsoft boasted in 2021 that Forza Horizon 5 achieved the biggest launch in Xbox history, pulling in over 10 million players within its inaugural week. That same momentum carried over when it finally landed on PS5 years later in 2025, easily clearing five million copies sold on rival hardware.
While PlayStation enthusiasts won’t have to endure an overwhelmingly long wait to experience the title, the temporary window of console exclusivity for Xbox and PC will stretch slightly longer than originally promised. When Playground Games initially unveiled the project, they pointed toward a generalized late-2026 release for Sony’s console.
This radio silence surrounding the port coincided with a turbulent corporate restructure within Xbox, which saw widespread layoffs and the restructuring of multiple internal studios. As Microsoft adapts its multiplatform publishing strategy, the company appears to be scaling back aggressive simultaneous releases on competing platforms. Although Xbox recently brought titles like Halo: Campaign Evolved to PlayStation—and reportedly weighed similar plans for Gears of War: E-Day before quietly shelving them—it remains uncertain whether future entries in the Forza Horizon series will continue crossing enemy lines.
