Former Killzone Producer Takes Helm at Bungie Amid Crisis, Says Journalist

Bungie underwent a leadership change following major restructuring and layoffs within its Destiny 2 and Marathon teams. Poria Torkan, formerly a producer for Killzone at Guerrilla Games, has taken over as the head of the studio.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reported that Justin Truman, who replaced Pete Parsons last year, is now resigning. Forbes contributor Paul Tassi noted that Torkan, the former vice president of operations, currently leads the studio, though Bungie has not issued an official confirmation.

Destiny Bulletin identified Torkan as a former producer at Guerrilla Games. Observers noted that Hermen Hulst, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment who authorized the layoffs, helped co-found Guerrilla Games.

These changes follow Bungie’s announcement of staff reductions. The studio stated that Destiny 2 performance fell short of expectations. After completing final content updates, the company determined it could no longer sustain its previous scale.

A memo from Hermen Hulst confirmed that these layoffs affected a significant number of Bungie employees. The cuts impacted the majority of the Destiny team, portions of the Marathon team, and Sony support staff. While Sony describes Marathon as a core part of its portfolio and promises continued support, the project faces an uncertain future.
