Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant Randy Madden Arrested on Allegations of Sex With a Minor

Randy Madden, who auditioned for season eight of American Idol, was arrested in Ventura County and is now facing several felony allegations.

Court records reviewed by Billboard indicate the 45-year-old musician has been charged with six felonies, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, transmitting harmful material, luring, and attempting to dissuade a witness from reporting a crime. Madden has entered pleas of not guilty to all counts.

Public online inmate records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office show the alleged violation is dated July 21. He was taken into custody on October 30, 2025, and was released on bail on the morning of November 4, 2025, after posting a $100,000 bond. A criminal protective order has been filed to protect the alleged victim.

Madden’s next court appearances are scheduled for November 13, 2025, and November 17, 2025.

Billboard has contacted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the district attorney’s office and Madden for comment.

Madden tried out for American Idol in 2008, when the show’s original judging panel—Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson—was still in place. He did not advance past his initial audition after performing Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” receiving unanimous “No” votes from the judges.

Prior to his brief Idol appearance, Madden performed with a band called Sexual Harassment. In August 2024 he launched a GoFundMe to cover living and medical expenses after experiencing severe complications from a ligament reconstruction in his left leg performed in May 2024. As of June 2025 he reported still relying on crutches or a cane and anticipated needing at least two additional procedures.

American Idol is set to premiere its 24th season in January 2026, with Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan serving as judges.
