First Trailer Released for Nathan Fielder and A24 Movie You Can See Everything

Nathan Fielder built a career on absurd stunts that make it almost impossible to tell fact from fiction. His first major series, Nathan for You, was a reality TV show that parodied shows like Shark Tank, with Fielder playing an elevated, awkward version of himself who gave horrible business advice. More recently, his HBO series The Rehearsal escalated before ending with Fielder seemingly piloting a commercial flight with dozens of passengers. While each stunt is more audacious than the last, Fielder’s next movie, You Can See Everything, may once again top what came before.

What is You Can See Everything about?

You Can See Everything is an upcoming documentary co-directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim that centers on Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the disgraced health technology company Theranos. A24 produced the movie, and it was shot in the weeks before Holmes began serving her 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors. The movie’s runtime is 174 minutes.

From the trailer, viewers see many of Fielder’s trademarks, such as an interrogation of the line between performance and truth. His dry sense of humor and tendency to drag absurdity out of his subjects are on display when he bluntly points out to Holmes’ partner that she may have conned him out of his wealth. The film’s co-director, Lance Oppenheim, is an experienced documentarian who released his first feature-length drama, Primetime from A24. Fielder also partnered with A24 in the past, starring in the dark comedy TV series The Curse.

You Can See Everything debuted at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 6, where it wowed critics. The film holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 10 reviews and a 95 on Metacritic from 7 reviews. Tomris Laffly from RogerEbert.com described it as “like no other film I’ve ever experienced.” Variety’s Owen Gleiberman wrote, “It’s a one-of-a-kind reality-TV-as-hangout-movie psychodrama circus. Yet it’s been made with a spirit of true inquiry, driven by Fielder’s acidly quizzical personality, and it gets its hooks in you.”

You Can See Everything is set to premiere in the United States on Oct. 16.
