Brad Kane, the showrunner for the upcoming ‘Friday the 13th’ prequel, has shared insights into the project’s tone and storyline; the series is set to debut on Peacock. Kane says he aims to present a psychological take on the cult slasher that originated in the 1980s.
According to Kane, the prequel — titled ‘Crystal Lake’ — will lean toward a paranoid thriller anchored in a 1970s setting. It won’t be a conventional slasher, although violent killings are expected. Character, period, and location are intended to function together to create a unified tonal landscape.
He also intends to incorporate the social upheavals of the 1970s, including the rise of the women’s movement in America.
