Final Fantasy VII Revelation Will Let You Spec Into Different FITS Classes But Still Wear The Party’s Classic Outfits
One of the most notable introductions in Final Fantasy VII Revelation—the upcoming conclusion to Square Enix’s ambitious remake trilogy—is the innovative FITS framework. The Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear mechanic empowers players to assign Cloud and his companions into four distinct combat classes: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. Beyond layering additional depth onto an already intricate combat system—which also welcomes franchise veterans Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine to the active roster—this feature dynamically alters the visual attire of your party members.
Following a hands-on session with the game’s opening chapter at the Tokyo Game Show, I sat down with director Naoki Hamaguchi to pose a burning question: will purists still be able to sport the characters’ iconic signature garments? (Read my full preview here).

While I thoroughly enjoy experimenting with alternative wardrobe options in role-playing games, narrative purity matters deeply during pivotal cinematic sequences. When locked in a legendary duel against Sephiroth, I firmly believe Cloud belongs in his trademark SOLDIER uniform rather than the flamboyant aesthetic of a Black Mage class.
Fortunately, Hamaguchi instantly alleviated my concerns. “That was genuinely essential for us to preserve,” he assured me.
“We completely understand that while many players will want to leverage the advantages of these diverse classes, they simultaneously want Cloud and the team to retain their definitive visual identity,” Hamaguchi explained, confirming this feature will be accessible right from the start of the journey.
While the exact implementation—whether it functions as a comprehensive transmog system or a simple toggle for tactical appearances—remains to be seen, the reassurance is immensely welcome. Knowing I can leverage the mechanical advantages of a Black Mage build against Sephiroth without sacrificing Cloud’s classic aesthetic is a massive win for traditionalists.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8 of next year, arriving simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
