A newly restored version of the original “The Fast and the Furious” was showcased as part of the Cannes Classics selection.
The premiere was attended by franchise stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Meadow Walker (daughter of the late actor Paul Walker), and producer Neal H. Moritz.
“Why is there such a massive turnout? I have never seen a midnight screening packed like this in my life. And our film didn’t come out yesterday. <…> I want everyone to know: you are the sole reason we are making the final Fast & Furious film; you are the ones who have gifted us your hearts and your loyalty. Each of you who feels like a part of the family keeps us moving forward. What you are about to see tonight is the beginning of a great love,”
— Diesel remarked before the screening. The film received a rapturous reception, with the audience shouting “We love you” to the team and applauding enthusiastically throughout the entire showing.
Released in 2001, “The Fast and the Furious” has evolved over the past quarter-century into a global cultural phenomenon that launched an expansive franchise. It now encompasses 11 films and has amassed over $7 billion at the worldwide box office. The highly anticipated final installment is slated for release in 2028.
