It is hard to believe that Fallout 76 debuted back in 2018. Despite enduring as a staple on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for nearly a decade, the title has yet to receive a dedicated native upgrade for current-generation hardware. That changes soon: Bethesda Game Studios has announced that testing for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions kicks off this month, with a full rollout slated for later this summer.

The announcement arrived alongside the “Infestations” update notes, which also confirmed that the title will feature specific optimizations for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Existing owners of Fallout 76 will be able to download the preview versions via their respective console storefronts to experience these technical improvements firsthand.

  • 4K Resolution: Crisp 4K output for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X (please note that 4K support is not currently planned for Xbox Series S).
  • Advanced Display Tech: Support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) across all current-gen consoles.
  • Dynamic Scaling: PS5 and PS5 Pro will now support 1440p, while legacy hardware remains locked to 1080p.
