The musical Wicked: Forever amassed $226 million worldwide during its opening weekend, media outlets report.
In the U.S. the film opened to $150 million, marking the second-largest debut of the year after Minecraft in Theaters ($162 million). Overseas markets added $76 million. The picture will not receive an official release in Russia following Universal’s suspension of operations there.
The story explores the relationship between the green-skinned witch Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and her former best friend Glinda (Ariana Grande). Critics have responded positively to the sequel — it holds a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The first installment premiered in 2024 and launched with a $164.2 million opening weekend.
