Elton John announced the final North American and European dates for his award-winning “Elton John Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour” on Wednesday morning (June 23).
The pop legend’s final run of stadiums is slated to kick off on May 27, 2022, at Deutsche Bank Park FKA Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, Germany, and run through a June 29 gig at Liberty Stadium in Swansea, U.K., before picking up again in North America on July 15 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, running through a Nov. 20 gig at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. The latter two-night stint will commemorate John’s legendary performance at the stadium in October 1975.
“Hello, all you wonderful fans out there. I’m coming to you today with an announcement I’ve been working towards for, well, all my life: The shows that I announce today will be my final tour dates ever in North America and Europe,” John, 74, said in a social media message.
“I’m going to go out in the biggest possible way, performing at my very best, with the most spectacular production I’ve ever had, playing in places that have meant so much to me throughout my career. Whether it’s next summer in Frankfurt or at the legendary Dodger Stadium for the grand finale in the United States, I can’t wait to see you all on the road one last time,” he continued. “This has been an incredible tour so far, full of the most amazing highs, and I look forward to making more wonderful memories with you at these final shows.”
In advance of the stadium gigs, John will play a Sept. 1 show at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, and another at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Jan. 19, 2022.
The tour announcement also teased some final 2023 dates in Auckland, New Zealand, on Jan. 27-28, and some soon-to-be-announced gigs in Australia that will help wrap up the four-year final swing that kicked off on Sept. 8, 2018.
