Disney+ is officially developing a television adaptation of Ella Enchanted, according to recent reports.
Anne Hathaway, who starred in the original 2004 film, is set to serve as an executive producer. The screenplay is being penned by Ilana Wolpert (Anyone But You), while Ben Schwartz (Dead Boy Detectives) has been tapped as the showrunner.
Based on Gail Carson Levine’s beloved novel, Ella Enchanted follows 16-year-old Ella, who was cursed at birth with the gift of obedience. As she grows older, she embarks on a quest to track down the fairy who placed the spell upon her. While the original film starring Hathaway struggled at the box office and received a mixed critical reception, the story remains a fan favorite.
Details regarding the cast and the official release date have yet to be announced.
