Ed Skrein Cast as Baldur in Amazon’s God of War TV Series

Ed Skrein cast as Baldur in God of War series

The realm of Midgard is expanding as Amazon’s live-action God of War adaptation continues to build its formidable ensemble. According to Deadline, Ed Skrein—widely recognized for his role as the villainous Ajax in 2016’s Deadpool—has been tapped to play Baldur, the lethal younger son of Odin.

Skrein, whose diverse portfolio includes Rebel Moon, Game of Thrones, and Alita: Battle Angel, is set to go toe-to-toe with Ryan Hurst’s Kratos. If the series mirrors the narrative arc of the 2018 masterpiece, audiences can expect an explosive, earth-shaking confrontation early in the story. Baldur serves as a relentless, recurring shadow over Kratos and Atreus as they navigate the treacherous Norse wilds to fulfill Faye’s final request: scattering her ashes from the highest peak in the realms.

For a glimpse of the visceral combat the show aims to replicate, you can view the original cinematic clash from the game below:

The production’s iteration of Baldur is described as a volatile and magnetic figure, stripped of the ability to feel physical sensation or pleasure due to a childhood curse. This sensory void has fermented into a savage bloodlust and an unpredictable temperament. He favors a raw, brawling combat style, fueled by a desperate desire to find an opponent capable of breaching his invulnerability and forcing him to finally feel something again.

With Skrein now officially on board, the confirmed cast for the Prime Video series includes:

  • Ryan Hurst – Kratos
  • Callum Vinson – Atreus
  • Ed Skrein – Baldur
  • Max Parker – Heimdall
  • Ólafur Darri Ólafsson – Thor
  • Mandy Patinkin – Odin
  • Alastair Duncan – Mimir
  • Danny Woodburn – Brok
  • Jeff Gulka – Sindri

Amazon has already committed to a two-season order, with pre-production currently underway in Vancouver. The project is being spearheaded by showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander). The high-profile series is a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Boy Productions.
