Early Version of GTA 6 Map Leaked and Loaded Into GTA 5

More than 192 gigabytes of data leaked last weekend, starting on September 18. The files contain cut content from GTA 5 and GTA Online, including unused dialogue, snippets from the canceled Agent Trevor story DLC, and Liberty City.

The most important part of the leak is an early version of the GTA 6 game world. This material is presumably part of the leak from four years ago that had never previously been made publicly available. This was something the hacker himself found surprising back in the spring.

The files are now out on the Internet, and users managed to load the GTA VI map into Grand Theft Auto V to drive around Leonida. These assets date back to 2015, making them more than 10 years old. They resemble a 3D model based on Google Maps imported into the game, complete with points of interest such as hospitals and police stations, and the geography was already taking shape at that time. You can drive along some of the streets, although they lack traffic, NPCs, and missions.

Take-Two worked to remove images and videos of material not intended for players from the Internet. Fans actively compared the leaked material with official trailers and screenshots during the first few days. Sharing the material could result in a DMCA takedown, so the coverage is limited to a verbal description of the discoveries.

• The map of the state of Leonida is roughly twice the size of the state of San Andreas in GTA V, while Vice City is roughly twice the size of Los Santos. This comparison becomes clear when the two game worlds are overlaid.
• Content that was originally planned but later cut includes:
  • a panhandle in the northwest;
  • Key West, a city at the southernmost point of the archipelago;
  • a Daytona racetrack;
  • NASA.
• Interesting locations that may have remained in the game include:
  • a huge casino, which is unsurprising given the completed gambling venue in Online;
  • a seaquarium.
• A separate large island was discovered, combining elements of Puerto Rico and Cuba. It contains:
  • an international airport;
  • an Arecibo Observatory analogue;
  • a Guantanamo Bay prison and military base.

Rockstar Games has not commented on this leak.
