Marking his debut release of the year, Australian electronic sensation Dom Dolla has unveiled a high-octane reimagining of a dancefloor classic: Puretone’s “Addicted to Bass.”

The fresh rendition, titled “Addicted to Bass (Dom Dolla Relapse),” pays homage to the 1998 hit that defined an era of Australian dance music. For the producer born Dominic Matheson, the project is deeply personal.

“This record was quite literally the soundtrack to my childhood,” Matheson shared in a recent statement. He noted that while the track was inescapable during his youth in Australia, he was struck by how many of his international peers were unfamiliar with its legacy. “Fast forward to preparing for my inaugural stadium performance in 2025. I was experimenting with various remix concepts and digging through the archives of records I’ve always loved, and I simply couldn’t move past this one.”

Reflecting on the track’s enduring legacy, he added, “Nearly three decades later, I hope this iteration resonates with a new generation even half as much as the original did with me. The addiction is real.”

“Addicted to Bass” wasn’t just an Australian phenomenon; it also conquered the British charts. Originally produced by Josh Abrahams and featuring vocals by Amiel Daemion under the moniker Puretone, the track surged to No. 2 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart in 2002. It was famously kept from the top spot only by the late Aaliyah’s “More Than A Woman.”

The “Relapse” version has received a glowing endorsement from the original creators. Abrahams praised the update, stating that it unearths the “deeper, steamier layers” of the composition. “While honoring the essence of the original—especially that iconic chorus—Dom has infused it with his signature dirty funk groove. I absolutely love it!”

The remix first sent shockwaves through the industry last December during Dom Dolla’s historic performance at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium. That milestone event capped a monumental year for the artist, which included a Grammy nomination, multiple ARIA Awards (including the first-ever ARIA Global Impact Award), and a sold-out two-night run at Madison Square Garden. He also recently contributed “No Room For A Saint” to the official soundtrack of the upcoming F1 film.

2025 promises to be equally relentless for the DJ. His schedule includes a global tour spanning North America, Europe, and Asia, a prestigious 13-week residency at Hï Ibiza, and a continued residency at LIV Las Vegas.
