Released in 2021, Disney’s adventure-comedy ‘Jungle Cruise’ — starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson — had the makings of a franchise. In the end, though, it underperformed, bringing in roughly $220 million against an estimated $200 million budget.
The previously announced sequel now appears unlikely to move forward; producers seem to have decided against risking additional investment.
That assessment is echoed by the film’s stars, Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson, who have indicated a follow-up is probably off the table.
