Disney Announces Glee Reboot Series
Disney and Hulu announced on Wednesday that a Glee reboot is officially happening. The news revives the fan-favorite TV franchise after more than a decade. Ryan Murphy spent much of the press tour for his recent FX series The Shards talking about wanting to bring back his musical comedy-drama.
The show’s X account broke the news on October 21, 2026. Its post said “Currently gleeking out” and included an image confirming the return.
Talk of a revival started in July. Murphy told People, “So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.'” Not long after, he told Entertainment Tonight that he had just finished a script for a Glee reboot.
The official announcement gave few details. Murphy will be involved, and the reboot comes from 20th Television, which produced the original series. The scope of the project remains unclear.
The original Glee ran for six seasons between 2009 and 2015. It became a massive hit, even if many viewers considered it pretty cringe. Its cast included Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron, Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison and Heather Morris, among others. A number of the original cast members have died since the show ended.
Is the new Glee series a hard reboot?
The reboot is in its early stages, and Murphy has said little about what the return will look like. He did let some information slip in his Entertainment Tonight interview.

“I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
That suggests the new series won’t be a fresh start. It may instead pick up where the original left off, and some familiar faces could appear.
Other series veterans will work behind the camera too. Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who co-created Glee with Murphy, also worked on the reboot’s script. They are likely on board now that the project has been ordered to series.

Theater kids have needed a new TV show since Schmigadoon! was canceled, so the Glee reboot is sure to be good news in some circles.
