“Digger” marks Tom Cruise’s worst opening in 19 years
Tom Cruise’s latest film, "Digger," has suffered a disappointing debut at the domestic box office. Early estimates suggest the movie will earn roughly $8 million over its opening weekend, representing Cruise’s poorest start in nearly two decades.
This outcome is particularly stinging for Warner Bros. given the film’s substantial production budget; "Digger" ranks among the studio’s most expensive original ventures. Despite the involvement of one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, audience interest failed to meet projections.
The weekend crown was instead claimed by the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel "Verity." The film secured the top spot at the U.S. box office, outperforming its rivals and leaving little room for "Digger" to gain any significant traction.
The underperformance of "Digger" serves as another major setback for Warner Bros. following a string of lackluster releases in 2026. For Cruise, this result is especially notable: after years of his projects consistently commanding tens and hundreds of millions of dollars globally, the actor has now endured his most lackluster launch in almost twenty years.
